The California wine business always eagerly awaits the California State Crush Report, due this year on February 8th. This report will allow adjustment from estimated tonnages to actual tonnage for the 2012 harvest in each district for each varietal and will also supply district average pricing. District average pricing, however, is not a very useful market indicator because it conflates prices on long-term contracts that may have been set years ago, with current spot market prices.
